One of our favorite holiday traditions is to celebrate St. Nicks Day! It’s on December 6th and the night before the kids put their shoes by the door. According to Google…St. Nicholas Day celebrates the third-century saint who sold all his possessions and gave his money to the poor. Raised to be a devout Christian, his whole life was dedicated to serving the sick and suffering. St. Nicholas Day is celebrated worldwide on the anniversary of his death, December 6.
We leave small treats in the kids shoes to celebrate this somewhat strange tradition. Every year it’s the same thing, just as it was when I was growing up: One small apple, one small orange, a pack of gum, M&M’s, and some chapstick.
